Information Mt Meru
Mount Meru is located in the middle of Arusha National park. The mountain is a stratovolcano located 70 kilometres west of Mount Kilimanjaro. Reaching a height of 4,562.13 metres (14,968 ft), makes it an ideal warm up for the Kilimanjaro trek. Many hikers use Mount Meru due its altitude acclimatization, the hike distance and challenging ascent.
The topographic location in Arusha national park, gives the hiker a different trekking experience. You will be guide along the wide range of wildlife living around the mountain. On the slopes of the mountain hikers might see the elephants, giraffes and buffelo’s.
We take the Momella route and climb ourselves up, right to the top of Mount Meru . The route is located on the eastern side of the mountain and start at Momella Gate. The trail will make us ascent to the north rim of the volcano crater and its impressive ridge line. Throughout following the Momella route you will sleep in huts located on this trail. You will reach the summit very early in the morning to witness the sunrise, with spectacular view of the landscape with Kilimanjaro in the distances.
Best time to climb Mount Meru is from June till February, during November it might be raining. If you want to make sure you get a stunning view from the summit looking over the Kilimanjaro we advise you to do the climb in December till February.
